Review: Having not released much in the way of music over the past few years, it was difficult to guess what type of album Beck was going to give us with “Modern Guilt.” He gave us a tripped out, somewhat dark yet imaginative record that is different from anything Beck has previously offered. The 10-song, Danger Mouse-produced album has an extremely distinctive “Dangered out” sound to it. Volcano is the best example of the fusion between Danger’s down-tempo house feel and Beck’s acoustic ambiance. Orphans has a retro sound to it, again with the distinctive Danger Mouse touch. We thought Walls and Soul Of A Man were also worth listening to. With only ten songs appearing on “Modern Guilt”, it’s hard to call it an album, but it is a decent experiment between Beck and Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton.
