Black Kids
Release Date: July 22, 2008
Album: Partie Traumatic
Rating: ★★★★
Review: The first LP from the Jacksonville, Florida indie-pop outfit is very good. Playing off the strength of a good distribution situation between Almost Gold (U.K.) and Columbia (U.S.) and a Rolling Stone designation as one of ten “Artists to Watch in 2008″, Black Kids are doing quite well. The album begins with an extremely authentic 80’s poppy-type sound with Hit The Heartbreaks. These kids have an unquestionably unique sound and the album bares it all. Partie Traumatic is another jam with a great melody and deep feeling behind it. Make sure to listen to the first two singles off the album Hurricane Jane and I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You (Official YouTube music video, released by the band. Watch it here.) These guys have a bona fide American pop sound and this album rides the whole way through. We are recommending it and showing home-state love.
