Hawthorne Heights

Release Date: August 5, 2008

Album: Fragile Future

Rating: ★★★

Review: Music fans have been anxiously awaiting Hawthorne Heights’ follow up to “If Only You Were Lonely”, which peaked at #3 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The band has been through their fair share of industry controversy, most recognizably with their record label Victory Records. (More info on HH’s label difficulties on Wikipedia & AllMusic’s Album Preview). All industry drama aside, this third studio album from the quartet is very average and the band is clearly missing the late guitarist and vocalist Casey Calvert. But, there is some good music to be had on this album. The opening track titled The Business Of Paper Stars is good, but lacks a bit in depth. One of the best songs on the album is Rescue Me, which reminds you to “just breathe, the midnight air will do you well.” Rescue Me has a great chorus and is glaring example that the band still has “it.” We also like Until The Judgment Day, an up-tempo jam amid an otherwise dark album. Check out Disaster and Corps Of Corpses for the gloomier, more macabre side of “Fragile Future.” If you are a Hawthorne Heights fan, you will absolutely not be disappointed by this album. If you’re a screamo, hardcore or emo/punk fan, you will probably recognize a slight void in the album. It’s almost a more alternative rock, mainstream pop type album.
