Review: You may already be familiar with Meiko from her success as an independent artist. Without a record label, Meiko was able to stun iTuneswith over 200,00 single downloads and positioning on iTunes top charts. She also managed a handful of synchs on such popular television shows as Grey’s Anatomy, The Cleaner and Moonlight. Now signed to MySpace Records and jointly to her own indie label imprint and Geffen’s DGC, Meiko has re-released many of her songs on this self-titled major release debut. The album plays the whole way through, but there are some gems. The first three songs: Reasons To Love You, How Lucky We Are and Heard It All Before are very strong tracks. The album has an almost trip-hop, coffee shop type of feel to it. The production on this remastered album is top notch and it really highlights some of the intricacies of Meiko’s style of songwriting. Listen to Walk By for an example of Meiko really showcasing her vocal talent. Hawaii is another very good song that was popularized by Grey’s Anatomy. Boys With Girlfriends is the sole new track on the remixed, remastered album. Meiko’s laid-back and candid style of acoustic songwriting comes across as genuine and organic, but with just the right amount of polish. We really like the direction her career is headed and this album is one of the better adult alternative rock offerings we have seen from a breaking artist in a while. Go check it out!
Meiko= good.
But I’d love for her to do more duets with AM.
Love love love love the duet New Road.
AM is the next John Lennon, well maybe not because he doesn’t have the marketing machine behind him and you can’t Google him. But Soul Variations is still my favorite album and i love that he introduced me to so many artists I didn’t know on his duets album. he’s got good taste in friends.
AM’s sound is a bit milquetoast in my humble opinion. Maybe I need to spend more time with it, although I’d prefer not to. This Meiko debut, however, is quite fantastic. Cheers for the tip!
Meiko is the best thing since Pinkberry!
Her album is soooo soothing…it is my “blankie” when I fly…My life & work are soooo super sressful and Meiko’s voice is always sure to calm my day…
Mucho Kudos!
