DJ Whiteowl “Drop That 59″ Mixtape
Album: Drop That 59 Mixtape
Rating: N/A
Review: DJ Whiteowl releases his latest underground mixtape with “Drop That 59″. The tape is a bit more raw, uncut and underground than most of Whiteowl’s releases. You can hear this in the sound quality of Jada’s tracks Lockdown and PCP as well as the first few tracks including a Freestyle from Lil Wayne and some unnamed tracks from Jim Jones and company. The bootleg track Bang Bang from Uncle Murda and Spliff Starr features a sample from Michael Jackson and dropped a few days ago on AllHipHop. Whiteowl’s been catching some heat lately from Internet gangster’s who constantly compare the ‘Drop That’ series to Biggy Jiggy’s ‘Exclusive Tunes’ series of tapes. Although both competing series of tapes often drop the same material, Whiteowl tends to concentrate more on underground and lyrical styles of rap, especially New York rap while Biggy Jiggy’s tapes are more pop and southern hip-hop inspired. “Drop That 59″ is definitely a lyricists mixtape, check out the remix titled Hussle In The featuring Nipsey Hussle, Maino and Jay Rock. The track Lookin is an interesting track with a familiar sample that finds WALE and Lady Gaga collaborating. There’s a 4:46 extended version of Wayne’s Hot Revolver if you’ve got five minutes to kill on some Weezy rock shit. Whiteowl also includes a snippet of Wayne’s Imma Be Alright at the end of the tape. The Game and Jay Rock hop on a remix to Marlena Shaw’s California Soul that sounds mellow like the original. Overall, this is a very average tape and we don’t see much, if any, mainstream music coming from this tape. But, if you wanna hear some good freestylez, remixes and lyrical rap, check it out.
