The Kickdrums “Just A Game” EP
Album: Just A Game EP
Rating: N/A
Review: The Kickdrums release their highly anticipated “Just A Game” EP, which is a 10-song collage of various uptempo, kickdrum-inspired beats laced with indie-rocked out vocals and influences from many different genres of music. The first single off the EP is the title track Just A Game, which has a grandiose intro and gritty vocals. Think Radiohead meets Gorillaz… in Ohio. Alex Fitts aka “Fitty” drops cool vocals and chilled out beats alongside production partner Tilla on the album. Its not so hard to tell that Fitts has “been playing guitar since [he] was old enough to hold one.” There is some good indie rock guitar on the EP, which has a familiar sound that isn’t quite rock, rap or trip-hop but more of a confluence of all three styles. The first track on the EP, titled Impatient (Slow Down), is an interesting cut and a nice way to start off the album. Things Work Out is a piano-laced joint that has all the right ingredients for a soulful pop track. Out To Get Me! is another song that displays The Kickdrums ability to write and produce good music with clever lyrics like “someone in this town is trying to kill me.” Overall, this is a great EP from the musical duo from Ohio, who are now preparing to release their full length LP “Detached…At Ease”.
